Big Five Project

 The main aim for this project is to create a small advertising booklet for a travel agency about one of the Big Five of a continent. 


What is the Big Five?

The Big Five are the five main animals of an area, the ones that are the most interesting and bring in the most tourists. The exact set of animals differ slightly depending on the source, but are consistent in general. Usually, these animals are unique to the continent or at least, are more common there.

The Continents to choose from are:
-Africa
-North America
-South America
-Asia
-Australia / Oceania
-Europe

I'm going to go with South America, as these big five aren't as well known as most other ones, and I want to bring them to light. South America also has a lot of unique animals.

Finding the Big Five
Now that I've decided the continent I will be working on, I need to research and find out what this big five actually is. 
To do this I've looked up the Big Five of South America and then compared a couple different sources to both see which animals cross over from each site and any other iconic animal I can think of from South America that just isn't listed there.


These are the big five I found from the three main sources I could find that actually only list five animals that are all from South America.
I highlighted any animal that appeared on multiple lists, the yellow shows which appears in all three. 
From here I needed to chose my big five.
First I took the ones that appeared in at least 2 of the sources, which leaves me with four animals; Jaguar, Anaconda, Spectacle Bear, and Black Caiman. However, they asked for five animals so I then chose one and I think I shall go with the Poison Dart frog, simply because it is quite different compared to the other animals and they're incredibly interesting animals.

Scamp Vs Final Design

 Between creating three different scamp designs, the design has again changed as I have created the final design for the booklet. This is due to the fact that it does look slightly different as images and the final text is added, adding the lorem ipsum text to create the main text format is helpful, however isn't as accurate as the actual text being in there. This is due to different paragraph and word lengths, as well as force creating line breaks to add some slight interest into the text blocks themselves so they have more interest and don't just look like one solid block of text, which can turn a lot off people off and away from reading something. One of the biggest difference between this is seen in the page spread 2-3. This screenshot is taken from the third pass of the scamp, and even includes the text that is used in the final design of the booklet on the page on the left. The Ad takes up the page in that format with a place holder heading area and a very large QR code.

Feedback

 So I asked my peers about Feedback for my work so far and advice on how I can edit them to make them more successful.  Feedback: My main piece of Feedback was about making the work more cohesive together, that I need to solidify the Gonzo that I'm going with, the personality and what type of Character he is going to be.  The painted piece I created seems to have been the most successful and gave off the most personality, especially with the background. However, the back didn't seem as cohesive to the design and far more generic, as if less thought had been put in when it came to designing the back. The spacing between the text and Gonzo on the Instagram Story ad also needs to be something that I keep in mind, so that it doesn't become overly cluttered, especially as it will be seen on a phone screen, up close. With each asset created for this I wanted them to be cohesive and all work well together, making the event unified and all fitting under one specific scheme and aesthetic to help it feel more professional.
